Buggy Drivers

814_LRGSo, I have been working on our product, working to get WiFi running. We were working with provisional WiFi hardware, and have just received the stock of the final WiFi hardware. This was an OURLINK WiFi USB WiFi Adapter. The problem was that it was causing a ‘Segmentation Fault’ when we tried to run the Linux hostapd program that turned this into a WiFi Access Point.

Well, after a lot of swearing, wondering why we didn’t just buy a few samples instead of a full production run, we stumbled onto an interesting blog. Basically, this contains an updated driver for the RTL8188 WiFi that does not cause hostapd to crash. This is definitely a very good thing! So, now we actually have the WiFi running properly. This is excellent news.

In slightly related news, this Blog post is being edited in Google Chrome rather than my preferred Firefox since the Visual Editor in WordPress is acting up with Firefox today. [Found the problem. For some reason Firefox had Javascript turned off. Not sure how that happened. Thanks to Facebook for suggesting that I turn Javascript back on!]
