Logos
When we were getting the logo designed for Redshift Wireless, we wanted to copy an idea I first remember seeing back in my days working at Pacific Power, the then new name for the Electricity Commission of NSW. They had one standard logo for the organization, but had the ability to change the colour of one aspect of the logo for each of the regions. I cannot remember all the colours, but I do remember that Western Region was Yellow, and I think that head office was Purple.
This is one of the things that I wanted when we were doing the Redshift Wireless logos. I knew that there were going to be a few different product areas, so I wanted the ability to create identifies based on these colours. There are many benefits to this type of scheme. The most obvious is from the aesthetic point of view. It adds something extra to websites and advertising, but it is more than that. Warehousing suddenly becomes more reliable, since it is possible to determine if items are out of place by colour. Stock pickers can quickly check to ensure that they are sending out at least the correct class of product.
Because the logo was designed with the idea of sub-branding, it was cheap and easy to get the customized logos created when we worked out what we needed. A simple decision at day one gave us great possibilities.
Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to release the meanings for each of the colours, and what the rest of the logo will say, but I am sure that some people would be able to guess. You see, certain colours have common associations. Green is environmental. Red means hot, and blue often means cool.
It is not our intent to release each of the products at the same time, so it might be some time until we reveal all. By then, I am sure that we will have some more logos added to our list.
