On Outsourcing
One of the hardest things when you are trying to start a new business venture and you start going with outsourced employees, rather than doing everything yourself, is the loss of control. This loss of control can leave you feeling vulnerable, even when everything is going well. This is not a complaint by any means, but it is an observation.
The other thing is that depending on the stage of development, much of your time may be just waiting on deliverables to come in. Right now, I am waiting on a package of parts, a package of PCB’s, some embedded software, a heap of server software and finally the release of a new development language. There will be a flurry of activity when each of these comes in, and then some quieter times.
The challenge is to use these quieter times effectively. In my case, that means that I am busiest during the early morning and late afternoon, and the middle of the day is generally less busy, and can be used for other work
