What is Our Core Business

Sometimes you need to ask yourself what the core business of a company is. Think about the business of Men’s Razors. Is the core business the razors or the blades. Or with inkjet printers, what is the core business? Is it the printer or the ink? At least with printers, some manufacturers build in technology so that the consumer is unable to re-fill their own printer cartridges. This has let to the extreme situation where it is almost cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy consumables. In my view, this is wrong.

Here at Redshift Wireless, we have a different idea about how to provide a service. In the area of energy efficiency many people offer the service of an ‘Energy Audit’, and then attempt to sell their products in order to fill any of the holes found in the audit. This leads to the situation where the person doing the audit is under pressure to prove how their products will solve a problem that they have identified, even if they are not the best suited for the customer.

Doing energy audits is not our core business, and I hope it never becomes our core business. Sure, one of our consultants might come and help you, but their job will not be to provide unbiased advice. Our core business is to sell hardware and hosting. Therefore, we will do things to support that. We might even suggest you not buy our products, or that you talk to a competitor if we think they might suit you better. But in the end, we have a business to run, and we want to do that with hardware and hosting.

So, if someone wants to come to you wanting to do an energy audit, ask what they are wanting to get out of it. Also, feel free to tell them about us!
